Bergerac: An ancient and diversified vineyard
Located on the left bank of the Dordogne, the Bergerac vineyard extends over nearly 12,000 hectares and has 13 protected appellations of origin. This soil, rich in clay-limestone soils and in sunny exposure, produces an astonishing diversity of wines, which are expressed in three colors and several styles: powerful or supple red wines, dry or sweet whites, dry or sweet whites, fruity rosés, and even some sparkling ones.
These wines, made mainly from traditional grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Sémillon, offer a wide range of aromas and a strong identity, faithful to the history and nature of Périgord.
Our favorite appellations
Bergerac red
Rich, fruity, supple, red Bergerac is often a blended wine, where Merlot dominates. It goes wonderfully with red meats, dishes in sauce or even local charcuterie plates. TO The Monrecour Table, we particularly like the Tour des Gendres Castle, a biodynamic estate that offers elegant and balanced cuvees.
Pécharming
It is undoubtedly the most famous red appellation in Bergerac. Pécharmanant seduces with its tannic structure, its aromas of black fruits, spices and sometimes undergrowth. It gains in complexity over the years. To discover with us: the Chateau Terre Vieille, ideal with duck breast or a piece of beef from Périgord.
Monbazillac
An undisputed star of the region's sweet wines, Monbazillac is made from grapes harvested in overmaturity, sometimes affected by “noble rot” (botrytis cinerea), which concentrates sugars and aromas. It reveals notes of honey, candied apricots and exotic fruits. Served at the start of a meal with half-cooked foie gras or as a dessert with pear pie, it is always a sensation. We strongly recommend the Monbazillac of Domaine de l'Ancienne Cure, a model of balance and freshness.
Dry Bergerac and white Bergerac Côtes
These white wines are often lively, floral, perfect as an aperitif or to accompany fish, fresh cheeses or vegetarian dishes. In Monrecour, our menu includes the “L'Instant” cuvée from Chateau Les Monderys, a natural wine full of expression, which seduces with its aromatic purity.
La Table de Monrecour: a winery that celebrates the land
Our gourmet restaurant, The Monrecour Table, is recognized not only for its refined cuisine inspired by local products, but also for its wine list particularly careful. Composed of more than 500 references, it honors the big names of French vineyards, while respecting theHistory of the estate and while reserving a place of choice for wines from Bergerac.
Our head sommelier carefully selects wineries and cuvees, with a clear objective: to make wines interact with dishes, enhance food-wine pairings and promote the local region. Each season, new domains join the menu, often from organic or biodynamic agriculture, in a logic of quality and respect for the environment.
We also offer tastings on request, in the dining room or on the terrace overlooking the castle and the surrounding hills, to help you discover the subtleties of these wines that are sometimes unknown but always sincere.
